Second 'No-confidence motion' against the Modi government!
by Bhupinder Kaur on July 26
Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla, accepted notice for no confidence motion against the majority on Wednesday 26 July, moved by Congress' Lok Sabha Deputy and North East leader Gaurav Gagoi, particularly, against PM Modi to force him to speak on Manipur violence.
On the 5th day of monsoon budget session 2023, I.N.D.I.A. (Indian National Development Inclusive Alliances), formed by 26 opposition parties earlier this month, attacked the Modi government for a serious answer at Manipur violence required on behalf of the entire country, as being portrayed by Congress leaders. The motion was on desk at 9:20 a.m. which will be taken care of within 10 days according to the rule 198 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Lok Sabha.
Although Lok Sabha got adjourned twice in a day with barely any discussion on the major point of 'Manipur violence', lots of points of view from both the opposition and ruling was seen. ‘PM Modi has forgotten Manipur..,’ Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who moved the notice, said. Many leaders including Congress MP Karti Chidambaram,BSP MP Malook Nagar,Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, BRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao, AAP MP Raghav Chadha, and many others attacked the Modi Government for Modi not breaking his silence on Manipur violence. BJP leaders, including Amit, Shah Smriti Irani and more came forward to counter-attack for I.N.D.I.A. while the speaker said, “I will inform you about the schedule for the discussion.”
The ruling government is enjoying a support of at least 332 lawmakers at Lok Sabha and have no threat from confidence motion but the need of 'Prime Minister of our Country' for breaking his silence on Manipur where a large population has been killed in violence and also many people had displaced from their own houses because of the ethnic clashes between the majority, Meiti group and tribal kuki minority, is necessary. Above all, the shameful incident that took place in early May, and got viralled via video had outraged people around the globe, where two women were paraded naked by a mob, because of which, it became an utmost important topic for the country's leader to talk about.
This no confidence motion is going to be the second motion against Modi in his tenure of nine years. Earlier in 2018, a lawmaker moved a motion for 'granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh state' which was defeated after 12 hours of debate. It will be interesting to note how this motion is going to act on the future rule of Prime Minister Modi and when and how this will be tackled.
